  • Plants

Plants have many things to teach us all. Every acre of jungle, woods, rain forest, that we destroy is like burning down an entire library of books that nobody has ever read or like burning down the best college and killing the teachers.

    Little things you can do.
use compost rather than fertilizer on your yard. The runoff tends to find it's way to the larger waterways: Lakes, rivers, streams, ponds, and the ocean.

Use biodegradable nontoxic soaps and cleaning products. Some products work better than others so you may have to try a few before you know which ones work best for you. 7th generation's laundry soap doesn't seem to do the job. I use.... bioclean? I can't remember the exact brand but it's something like that. It works great.

catch all that water that falls free from the sky and start using that more. Water treatment plants put all sorts of harmful chemicals in the water you drink. This isn't good for you or your plants either, or your lawns, etc.
One day when you have free time do a quick search on what's being said about whats in your water. You may be shocked at what you find.
rainwater harvesting keeps more water on your property instead of letting it run off unused into your street and down to some drain. There are many ways to harvest rainwater. Imagine the change in your water bill. Water from the city has to be treated (using "dirty" power, harmful chemicals, and so on) I could go into this deeper but I have to go soon.

Vote to legalize hemp every chance you get. Put pressure on politicians to do so.
Hemp is illegal because of the oil and paper companies not because people smoke it sometimes. Canada has legalized hemp and it's about time the US did also.

Buy from companies that have a good record with the environment. Avoid using products from companies that do more harm than good.

Put pressure on the government to stop these planned wars they keep on sucking us into. These are horrible for us and our environment. War mostly isn't about protecting your freedom anymore, it's about destroying it and giving more power to rich psychopaths.  I'm sure there are exceptions but they are few.

Planting a tree in place of one you cut down is a good thing... but what about all that underbrush that gets killed off and cleared away? Selective harvesting is one of the only environmentally friendly means of harvesting I've seen.

No I don't want a carbon tax. Thats just about taking away more freedom.

    Excellent GG!

I love the rainwater idea, and plan to utilize it as soon as I can.  I had viewed here, or on TV...  can't recall now, about an ingenious woman who used her downspouts to collect from all over her property, from sheds and garage, to her house.

I agree with your comments about hemp.  It would put some big corporations out of business...  big deal.  The stuff people smoke to get high is only one variation of hemp.  There are many others besides cannibis sativa.

We use natural cleaning solutions in my girlfriend's cleaning business.  They work, are cheaper than the chemicals, and don't pollute, or cause cancer.

Everyone should plant something.  I feel good about trees I have planted, and look at them now in amazement.  Tulip trees I planted 25 years ago towering over the yard, maples I transplanted from saplings growing in the garden are twenty feet tall.  A beautiful bright red (this time of year) burning bush that began as a foot tall transplant, to an eight foot tall ball of red, and a baby clone next to it that I took from the root.

When my kids were young, the three of us went to the backyard, and all planted a pine tree.  I wanted them to recall that time as it grew, and the tree, and all of us grew older together.

@saturnnights - Thats a cool idea with the pine tree. Pine is one of my favorites. It has so many gifts for us aside from it's beauty. I use it in one form or another probably at least once a month.

Youtube has some good stuff on rainwater harvesting also. :)

I've got a lot of these little fruit tree's I plan to transplant here and there. What I want to do is get those little "in memory of" things and plant these tree's in city parks. The idea is that the people running things would see the "in memory of" thing and leave the tree be. Then we would have fruit tree's in our parks. novel concept. :)

    Happy harvesting!

Sugar cane is already sprouting :)
